
Negotiations
Council
The Negotiations council will be composed of at least two persons from each
building and a council chair and will have the responsibility of putting
together a contract proposal. Members of the negotiating team will be elected
by written ballot. At least one member from this team shall serve on the Meet
& Confer Committee.
Settlement
Committee
The Orono Settlement Committee (formerly the Action Team) exists to assist in
OEA negotiations efforts. Through strong and united collective actions,
teachers can participate in the effort to maintain and enhance our
professional dignity by securing the fairest and most competitive compensation
packages possible. Serving on the Settlement Committee is a great way to
contribute to the OEA.
Meet
& Confer Committee
The Orono Meet & Confer committee exists to provide a formal exchange
of views and concerns between employers and their employees. Such meetings
provide a direct line of communications between teachers and the district. It
is also intended to encourage close cooperation between teachers and the
district by providing for discussions and mutual exchange of ideas.
Social
Council
Responsible for supporting and OEA social functions.
Professional
Rights & Responsibilities
This committee has the responsibility to inform association members of their
legal rights, conduct grievance processing, ensure legal acuity, protect
teacher welfare, and investigate violations of legal, ethical, and contractual
rights.
OEA Uniserv Representitive
Uniserve is a intermediary organization between the local organization and Ed
Minnesota to which many school districts belong. Our Uniserve provides support
and training for the teachers in the member locals. Sometimes it serves as just
an information source. More often it serves for training in negotiations,
teacher rights, professional development etc. Orono has a representative and a
member
Continuing Education
The group has committee has the responsibility of evaluating continuing
education activities and recommending renewal of five-year continuing teaching
and support service licenses, per Board of Education rules.
OEA Field Services
This person has the responsibility for membership promotion and member
participation.
