- Greetings from the Continuing Ed chairs!
The MN Dept of Ed has two new requirements for relicensure:
1) Effective for ALL 2012 renewals: Technology Integration is now a requirement.
2) Effective for all renewals AFTER July 1, 2012: Teachers must submit
"evidence of work that demonstrates professional reflection and growth
in best teaching practices."
This
requirement is ONLY for classroom teachers and long term subs who have
taught in the classroom for 15 or more consecutive days at any point
during their 5 year cycle.
After
carefully reading the requirements for this (see attached if
interested), we have concluded that the work we already do for ATPPS is
very closely aligned to this requirement. The state has added this
requirement for relicensure but at a local level, we do not want to
create more work for the teacher when we already have these requirements
in place. If a teacher completes all parts of the ATPPS evaluation
process (Teacher Profile, Pre-and Post-Observations) and is thoughtfully
reflecting on their teaching as a part of this process, then this
requirement will be fulfilled. At the end of the year, the ATPPS
chairperson submits a list of those teachers who have fulfilled the
ATPPS requirements to the district office and district personnel will
check off the requirement in Keep Certified. This will be done at the
end of the school year and needs to happen once in the five year cycle.
Additionally, 5 CEU hours will be added the first time this requirement
is met. You will only earn these 5 hours one time in your 5 year cycle
and the district will add them for you. REMINDER: Those renewing
before July 1, 2012 do not need to worry about this until their next
cycle.
Continuing Ed Meeting Dates (these are also on the district calendar)
October 12
December 14
February 8
April 11
May 9
All meetings are at 4:00 and meet in the language lab at the HS.
A few other important reminders:
1) Always make a photocopy or electronic copy of all certificates before handing them off to a committee member.
2)
If you renewed last year, be sure to send your new license to the DO.
It has to be on file and it is their cue to wipe out your Keep
Certified file so you can start working on the next cycle.
3) Only check one of the 5 required areas if your certificate specifically says the requirement was met.
4) Cycle of 5 is on Saturday, November 5 (see attached flyer).
If you have questions, please see one of your building representatives.
